My favorite purchase is hands-down this 100% complete copy of the highly-sought game, Metal Storm, which has become revered by gamers who’ve produced ’hidden gems’ videos and articles. Little did I know how expensive many of these games I was collecting at the time would become, otherwise I’d have bought everything I could have gotten my hands on. My wife called me a ‘box snob’ every time I passed on a NES game that had a box I felt was too beat up. So in my early NES collecting days, I chose to focus primarily on buying boxed or complete games so I had the nice box and manual to accompany the cartridge. I started getting into game collecting about 15 years ago myself and I focused mostly on the NES since the games were more playable and easier to find than Atari, and that’s the system in which I truly fell in love with gaming. As more and more nostalgia-fueled adults started buying up these old games to revisit their childhood, the brand new retro game collector market emerged. Over the past 15 years, retro games went from clutter that people wanted to throw out to highly valued collectibles.
